JJ Abrams to Direct Star Wars Episode 7
Yesterday, Lucasfilm and Disney confirmed that JJ Abrams
would be directing the new Star Wars movie, set to be released in 2015. Star
Wars fans should rejoice as Abrams has an impeccable record of releasing
critically acclaimed movies and TV series. He has produced the likes of Lost
and Fringe for TV and directed Mission Impossible 3 for cinema.
Not to forget the new franchise reboot of Star Trek. In 2009
he resurrected the Star Trek series, much to the delight of Trekkies all across
the world. This year he releases his 2nd Star Trek film “Into
Darkness”, which seems to have elevated all aspects of entertainment in
comparison to the 2009 film, clearly visible from the trailer which showcases
Benedict Cumberbatch as a mysterious villain seeking revenge.
So what does Abrams directing Star Wars mean to the future
of the Star Trek franchise? Will he drop out of the franchise after Into
Darkness or continue to operate both Sci-Fi dynasties? Has he stabbed Star Trek
devotees in the back? Is he a traitor? There must be a certain degree of disdain following the
announcement as Trekkies and Star Wars fans aren’t known for their fondness for
each other. Whatever the matter is, Abrams has a huge responsibility and the
expectations of millions of fans on his shoulders. Let’s hope he does right by
both parties. May the force be with him.
Negotiations definitely went well. |
