2011 Movie Adapted For The Small Screen
Word is out that Limitless, the 2011 movie featuring Bradley
Cooper is being adapted for TV. The process is being undertaken by Relativity
Media, the company that was
responsible for the movie as well. It will be
spearheaded by the TV arm of the studio but no other word is out on the
production, besides the fact that Bradley Cooper will be producing the series
(exec producer that is).
I must confess that I haven’t watched the movie, so it’s
difficult for me to say if the transition will be smooth and seamless. Studio
execs state that the movie’s ending gives the perfect gateway to a TV show, so
I guess it is possible.
Many franchises have gone on to extend their run through
movies and TV, but ultimately ended up running low on creative fuel. In my
opinion, this happened with Dexter where the repetitive theme across several
seasons was the titular character trying to find someone to share his burden
with. The series finale, too, wasn’t well received by a long shot.
Limitless may start off successfully for the first couple of
seasons, especially given its rather strong premise of a potent drug to aid one’s
cognitive functions. On the matter of producing the TV show, though, the
verdict must lie with those who watched the movie. Unfortunately, I can’t count
myself among that group.
