Vin Diesel's Casting Options with Marvel

Vin Diesel set on Avengers 2?

Two weeks after rumors first started spreading about a potential meet up between Marvel and Fast and Furious franchise superstar Vin Diesel, the 45 yr. old posted a picture of him posing alongside a framed cover of
the Avengers #2 comic book, to his Facebook fans. He followed this up with the following comments:

“Marvel meeting today.....Only the people in the room can tell you what was discussed...P.S thanks to our page, for pushing to make it happen...you know I get tunnel vision with my work...and after that meeting today...wow!!”

Naturally, as soon as I read these words my head started working overtime figuring out what character this action veteran will be given. In the following article I’ll take a look at what part the actor could play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, fresh off his roles in Fast and Furious 6 and Riddick.

First a list of confirmed and potential films in Marvel’s Phase 2 and Phase 3

With the first 4 movies in Phase II already working out, it’s possible that the meeting was about a Phase III movie.

The most high profile role Vin Diesel could land is probably that of Thanos, the rumored villain for the second Avengers movie, but this would leave me highly disappointed as it would mostly be just a voice over, with CG used to play out the part of the supervillain giving Vin Diesel no actual screen time. This is also my main concern about Batista playing the role of Drax the Destroyer in Guardians. I mean, come on, who doesn’t want to see these powerhouses in action.

Ant Man looks like a very distant possibility, considering the main character Hank Pym is a tall, blue eyed, blondie. Not something one would see Vin Diesel portraying, but count on Marvel to surprise us. After all they did introduce a black, bald Nick Fury, instead of the white, blonde comic book version.

Personally I wouldn’t mind seeing Vin Diesel take the lead role in a possible Black Panther movie, but does anyone else really see him as a leader of an African tribe? Besides, I think the Black Panther stand-alone film is only in development and casting meetings happening right now makes it all seem a little too far-fetched. The same could be said about an Iron Fist role.

I am completely ruling out the possibility of Vin Diesel as Doctor Strange. The Doctor is a sorcerer, more mind over muscle, and I do not see the point of signing up Dom Torreto for such a role.
This narrows it down to two of my favorite rumored roles, The Vision and wait for it....Blade.

Kevin Feige hasn’t made his love for a Blade reboot a secret and with speculation about a script already written, it does look like everyone’s favorite Vampire Hunter is going to be back in business. 9 years after Wesley Snipes’ last outing as Blade, I wouldn’t mind seeing Vin Diesel being given his chance to redeem the modern vampire image.

As for The Vision, it’s not something new to Vin Diesel. A year back he had changed his Facebook profile picture to a picture of The Vision. Since then there has been speculation about Diesel’s interest in playing this character. Whether it was a prank or for real only Diesel will know, but for now The Vision looks like something he would be looking into.

Starting off as a villainous android created by Ultron to destroy superheroes, the Vision ends up a good guy and joins the Avengers. With all the extremis based man-machine storyline in the Iron Man movies, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Vision make an appearance in a possible Iron Man 4 movie. Then again, I can’t really see Vision playing a big role in the movie and I’m pretty sure Vin Diesel is looking for something bigger.

Personally, a Vin Diesel lead Blade Reboot (free of Ryan Reynolds please) is the best case scenario but honestly anything he does with Marvel, should be the best case scenario.

Vin Diesel Vision
How about Vision?
