The Expendables movie franchise has little to offer in the way of story and plot. This is a no brainer. Instead, it chooses to rely on the recruitment of action stalwarts from all ages, celebrities who were prominent in the action field at some point in cinema. Expendables 1 italicized
Sylvester Stallone, Eric Roberts, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Mickey Rourke, Gary Daniels, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Randy Couture, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, and Steve Austin. For the sequel, the main additions were Chuck Norris (from the infamous Chuck Norris jokes series, recently) and Jean-Claude Van Damme. This third, upcoming installment will see (unless plans change) Nicolas Cage, Jackie Chan, Steven Seagal, Mel Gibson, Wesley Snipes and most importantly in my mind, Milla Jovovich.

If Milla Jovovich is in the movie, it will be the first time that the franchise headlines a female lead action star. Of course, the 2^nd movie had its own female power led by Nan Yu’s Maggie, but she’s hardly of luminary status.

So far, Expendables has been jam-packed with male leads, so the movie was brimming with testosterone. It could even be called a cock fest if you will. Even the inclusion of more stars over the years falls into generic territory as there is no significant distinction between the leads. Thus, the insertion of Milla Jovovich serves as the perfect remedy to the franchise.

Consider a science experiment performed by leading physicists, chemists or biologists. The standard or convention is to only adjust one variable while keeping all other elements constant. This is to ensure that the reason for a result can be traced back successfully. Expendables in this instance could be seen as adjusting or adding the variable of female stardom. And as science experiments are known to prove, a minor change can cause momentous changes. Then imagine the explosive effect Milla Jovovich can have.

Think about how the dynamics of all relationships will change by having a female in the midst. Jovovich’s gun slinging could in fact surpass the skills sets of some guys and this can fuel jealousy, providing some humor and laughter to the mix. Perhaps Terry Crews will be the intended victim of the insults and jokes due to his comedic roots. It must also be noted that Jovovich has played some headstrong and willful roles, namely in the Resident Evil Franchise.  After headlining 5 of these movies, she raised $915,934,664 for Sony and Screen Gems studios globally and she played the lead role of Alice. The nature of her portrayals could mean that she frequently spars with Stallone’s leadership decisions, creating arguments and anarchy if things become even worse.  Finally, Jovovich could also be a source of sexual tension given that she is well endowed all round. In my mind, the person who falls prey to her looks is going to be Jason Statham as the other cast members are either old enough to be her grandpas or are seeing their money-maker faces lose their value. This final element should be included definitely as the franchise has so far skipped out on sexual material to focus solely on violence and gore to earn the R rating.

Jovovich should also help box office earnings as her Resident Evil stint has shown. Numbers of female viewers should increase to even out the gender imbalance at movie theaters. Like all of the other action stars, her fans should also turn up to watch the 3^rd entry. Perhaps her 1,214,307 twitter followers would all attend to boost financial earnings. In addition, her appeal to male audiences will definitely help, especially if word gets out that she is planning to bare it all for the camera, as she has done in the past.  Without doubt then, Milla Jovovich should aid Expendables 3 creatively and financially.

I’m not sure if she will definitely star in the movie, but her presence has some clear cut benefits. It’s still too early to tell as the movie is in the pre-production stage so casting choices may be overturned with other replacements. But one fact is clear; to reinvigorate this movie series a female celebrity must be there in the all-star lineup.
