Warner Bros. Chasing Temple Run Movie

Temple Run Game may Become a Movie

Temple Run vs. Angry Birds on the Big Screen

A new trend in Hollywood happens to be games being converted into movies. These games can either be those dedicated for intensive gameplay or those for the casual gamer on mobile devices. When considering the former, an example that springs to my mind is Assassin’s Creed, and its
film adaptation will supposedly star Michael Fassbender and be released in 2015. Then came news of the Angry Birds movie, based on Rovio’s successful mobile game for more casual users. Angry Birds has already created a successful animated series, which only strengthens its resolve to create a feature film. And now, it’s Temple Run’s turn.

Warner Bros. is apparently talking to Imangi Studios to produce a movie based on the bestselling game, a game that has spawned several more spinoffs (Temple Run: Brave for instance) and a sequel. The premise for the story, according to The Hollywood Reporter “would center on an explorer who, having stolen an idol from a temple, is chased by demonic forces”. This works exceptionally well given the game’s premise, which involves a man (explorer if you will) running away from some scary-looking beasts. Quite frankly, I see this to be a more promising foundation for a story than the Angry Birds game because it can be grounded in reality and rely on actual characters instead of animated ones.

I can see the story unfold in front of my eyes right now. A man, takes a vacation to an exotic island to get away from his girlfriend only to be embroiled in some mad chase. Even better, he could be vacationing with his girlfriend and takes a hike on his own, only to get lost, discovers an idol, and then gets chased by demons of all sorts.

To aid the movie even further, producer David Heyman is also involved with the negotiations. Heyman is well-known for producing all the Harry Potter films and recent box office success “Gravity”. So naturally, one can assume that if the film gets the green light, it can be a potential success.

I actually want this to work out and predict that if it did, The Temple Run film would outdo the Angry Birds feature easily, financially and in other aspects. But I’m still not sure who should play the explorer.
