Captain America: Winter Soldier Suit

Is Captain America Giving Up his American Colors?

Captain America may be starting off Marvel’s Phase 2 with a drastic makeover in the form of a new suit.  Upon first sight, it’s clearly predominantly blue and white, and there isn't a hint of red or anything American about it. It seems like patriotism has given way to a stealthier look, and without the shield, he might be mistaken for a daredevil or stuntman from some other country.

The new look therefore seems to ride in with his operation for Winter Soldier, which definitely involves covert functions for a one man army. Everything points at a hidden enemy in Washington so I suppose giving an American vibe could get you killed, even if you’re a superhuman.

Personally, though I prefer the First Avenger Suit for its grittier projection, unlike the hip outfit he had for Avengers with a spandex costume. That one was brighter and more bubbly, to be concise. This new look does try to go back to those roots but with less red, an in my mind, less American.
